Almost 8 out of 10 respondents of the survey jointly conducted with the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) said they want a simple life while 16.9% said they want an “affluent life.” Only 3.9% said they want “the life of the rich.”
In terms of employment, 69% said they would prefer working in the country rather than going abroad and 88% believe Filipinos should be provided local jobs.
“In 2040, we will all enjoy a stable and comfortable lifestyle, secure in the knowledge that we have enough for our daily needs and unexpected expenses, that we can plan and prepare for our own and our children’s future,” the study concluded as quoted in anInquirer story.
“Our family lives together in a place of our own, yet we have the freedom to go where we desire, protected and enabled by a clean, efficient and fair government.”
For NEDA Secretary Emmanuel Esguerra, achieving this vision is all too possible.
“Empirical studies indicate that, with the right policies, improvements in productivity and efficiency can triple our (gross national) per capita income to about $11,000 in 25 years,” he said.
He also noted that it cannot be achieved over time and would require the support of four administrations or equivalent to 24 years.
