This was the explanation given by the Department of Foreign Affairs in response to questions on why the remains of Fernando Peralta, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who worked in Israel, was not shipped correctly to his family in Porac, Pampanga.
The embassy is closely coordinating with the family of the deceased Filipino national to ensure the immediate repatriation of Peralta. The Israeli shipper is arranging for the return of the foreign body to its correct destination.
Jose said the DFA need not apologize for the incident.
"Wala namang shortcoming (ang DFA). Yung Israeli company, they've already recognized their mistake and they're doing everything to ship the remains, ang corpse to the family," he said.
He said the embassy identifies the body of an OFW in the morgue before the body is refrigerated and sealed by the funeral service
The Israeli company assumes the costs of this mistake by shipping the remains of the Filipino worker to his family, and the body of the foreigner to its rightful destination.
Jose believes this is the first time that a wrong body was sent to a bereaved family.
